Cloud Talk by Mr Jago at Stolen Space

StolenSpace are preparing for the 1st London solo show by Mr Jago. The show will include new work on canvas, silk, wood & installations, and there will be a release of 2 new limited edition screen prints.

‘I see figures & form everywhere, in water, carpet patterns, shadows, clouds, everything is an abstract character and they are free’

‘Of all weather phenomena, I find clouds the most fascinating, from the silky filaments of high altitude cirrus to the towering, threatening mass of storm-bearing cumulonimbus, clouds are as varied as the new work itself. I love cloud watching, from no where the fluffy mass morphing shapes from a cunning fox with whispy ears to familiar faces ’

The show is set to open on the 12th September through to the 28th and is a must for any fans of his work. For further information, check out the site

Laz Inc is expanding - The Outsiders show, Charing X, London

Lazarides Gallery is expanding. On 23 May Laz Inc will officially open a new space with a group show of work from all of its artists at 121 Charing Cross Road that will become a permanent space with a rolling show of Lazarides artists’ work.

Lazarides gallery is the primary source of work for artists such as Antony Micallef, Faile, Stanley Donwood, Ian Francis, Paul Insect, Conor Harrington, Invader, Lucy McLauchlan, David Choe, Miranda Donovan and Mark Jenkins. Lazarides’ artists’ works defy simple categories like ‘graffiti’, ‘graphics’ or ‘pop art’ – best described instead as ‘cult art’. With the Greek Street Gallery already firmly established as the primary cult art space in London, the Charing Cross Road gallery will double the viewing space, allowing the public to see a constantly evolving group show by exciting emerging and established artists.

The Outsiders are a band of cult artists who’ve been working outside the established world creating a scene of their own. The absolute core of cult art is its accessibility to its public. Lazarides Gallery has a genuine desire to be as inclusive and unconstrained by the art world as possible. This is reflected by the Lazarides client base which includes plumbers and pop stars, school kids and established art collectors.

Also launching in May will be an entirely new, interactive website, allowing all users to move virtually through the galleries and look at the work. Designed by Zombie Flesh Eaters, each of the Lazarides artists will have their own page, with a bio, current and past work, news section and picture gallery where news items and videos can be uploaded.

Zombie Flesh Eaters is an award winning illustration, animation, web design and graphics studio. The company was founded in 2000 by Creative Director Jamie Hewlett - co-creator of Tank Girl and Gorillaz, and since its inception has garnered much recognition for its work across the areas of music video, graphic design, press, web and live performance.

OUR MANIFESTO

Whether it’s a movement in art, a shift in culture or a musical revolution - soon enough the media catches on, waters it down and feeds it to the masses. They eat it up, but some of us remain hungry for what sparked our original interest.

We don’t just want to settle for what’s put in front of us, we want something that’s going to excite us, challenge us and inspire us to get out there and do something ourselves.

We’re a collective with a real desire to share the passion we have for artists (both new and old) and the work they produce.

Our aim is quite simply to showcase the artists and designers we find interesting and make their work more accessible and affordable to a new audience through the production of bespoke, high quality screen prints.

We’ve searched for people and work that inspire us and think worthwhile sharing.

Hopefully you’ll share our vision.

OUR PRINTS

We’re passionate about the quality of our prints. In fact, each print is pressed and finished by hand on the best paper we could find - and they don’t get much better than the 100% Cotton Somerset Satin paper made by St. Cuthberts Mill (ours is a 310gsm).

The paper is also ‘Tub Sized’ which means they are soaked in a sizing bath after the paper is made - this allows the ink to sit on top of the paper instead of being absorbed.

Each limited edition print is hand printed, signed, embossed with the Blank No More seal and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

HOW DO WE SCREEN PRINT?

It’s a print produced by forcing ink through a mesh or screen stretched across a frame.

Each colour in an image is laid down onto paper by pushing ink through a very fine mesh. To create the image we block off areas on the mesh where we don’t want the ink to touch the paper. By creating numerous meshes, one for each colour, we slowly build up a complete picture.

It’s a labour intensive process but it creates the great results we’re looking for.

WHY SCREEN PRINTS?

While there are other methods of printing, we feel that screen prints boast the best quality and most vibrant colour effects available.

We’ve long felt that the quality of the print produced is more real and tangible - the ink has been pushed through by a person not a machine - and we love the small variations between the prints that this creates.

It makes each one our prints truly unique.

Stencil Art installation by Blek Le Rat at the Conran Shop on the Fulham Road, London

Blek le Rat is one of the most loved and most influential figures in the world of street art. Blek le Rat today created a unique stencil art installation on the window of The Conran Shop, Fulham Road prior to the launch of his book ‘ Blek le Rat – Getting Through the Walls’, published by Thames & Hudson.

The book is a unique view inside the life and work of the one of the most private, but also one of the most applauded figures in the vibrant world of street art. Blek le Rat is revered and acknowledged by the international street and graffiti community, and his work has influenced record and CD design, advertising and graphics, as well as the work of many street artists around the world, including Banksy.

To order your copy of the book for a small sum of £11.95, head over to Thames and Hudson here

And a bit about the book:

From small, simple stencils to complex multimedia events, Blek’s distinctive art is showcased here for the first time, demonstrating the development of his technique and creativity over two decades. Whether it’s his unique images of Lady Diana and kidnapped French journalist Florence Aubenas or his iconic silhouette of a rat, we see why ‘The Genius of Blek’ is hailed in King Adz’s film about this elusive, deeply creative figure.

See
Sybille Prou’s video for the book
King Adz’s trailer for his film

The book features photographs of hundreds of Blek’s works and an in-depth exploration of the method and meaning behind his stencils, as well as a look at the evolution of urban art from New York, Paris, Barcelona and Buenos Aires to London, Taipei, Naples and Berlin. It will inspire anyone interested in design or contemporary urban culture.

See Blek Le Rat’s website

Sybille Prou studied art and literary history in Cologne and is the author (with Bernhard van Treeck) of Pochoir and Graffiti in Paris. She is married to Blek le Rat and has photographed his work for many years.
King Adz is a filmmaker and Creative Director of 100proofTRUTH, a PDF magazine that celebrates and promotes urban creativity. He produced and directed Original Stencil Pioneer, a film about the life and work of Blek le Rat in 2006.
