It’s been a while since Ron English was last in London hasn’t it? He’s back at the Lazarides Gallery on Rathbone Place with a new exhibition titled, ready for it, “Skin Deep: Post-Instinctual Afterthoughts On Psychological Portraiture”

From the Laz site:

“Painter, Pundit and Prankster Ron English presents Skin Deep, an exploration of the intersections, discrepancies and synchronicities of personal mythologies on display in our public personas. The exhibition presents multi-layered portraits of some of his most iconic characters, tracing the arc of their inner lives.

Often using his children as models, English chronicles the soul’s sojourn through Pop dioramas of fear and appetite, aspiration and rage. While paying homage to the great art before him, English maintains his very personal point of view, transforming the public to intimate and the universal to specific.

Using a mixture of imagery, medium and process referenced from great masters such as Warhol, Pollack and Picasso, combined with irreverent cherry-picking of populist totems from fast food to cartoons, English creates complex running narratives of his many alter-egos butting headfirst into the Grand Illusion, where unstated cultural norms are exposed and analyzed”

The exhibition opens on 24th June and runs right through till the 21st July 2011

Bäst: Botulism at Lazarides

Opening on 20th August at the Lazarides Gallery on Rathbone place is the very first solo show from Brooklyn’s infamous collagist, Bäst. The exhibition will present a collection of new works, developing past preoccupations in an exciting new direction.

With the opening of their slick new outpost on Rathbone Place in London’s Fitzrovia last week, Lazarides show once again that they’re in a league of their own.

Lazarides relocate their print shop

Never ones to stand still for too long, Laz have now moved their print shop from the upstairs of the Charing Cross Road branch to their Greek Street outpost.

The new print shop is open from noon today. More info about the planned content of the shop after the jump and for even more info visit Lazinc.com.

The concept of the SHOP is to provide a venue for the sale of affordable art starting from £20 upwards. Instead of showcasing solo exhibitions by Lazarides’ various artists, this space is now going to be used for selling interesting, often exclusive, limited edition prints, books, originals at the lower end of the price spectrum, small sculptures and other objects.

There will be a constant stream of work coming in by new and interesting artists such as Coop and Frank Kozik as well as work from artists already under the Lazarides umbrella … Vhils, Conor Harrington, Blu, Faile, JR and Bast to name just a few.

Lazarides' 'Outsiders' show goes to Walsall

For those that didn’t get the chance to catch Lazarides’ ‘Outsiders‘ show in New York back in October, you’ll be pleased to hear that it will be making it’s way to The New Art Gallery in Walsall from December 5-January 25.

The private view is this Thursday (December 4) from 6-8pm. No need for RSVPs just turn up and enjoy.
