Upfest 2010

Upfest ’10 will be held 5 and 6 June 2010 at the Tobacco Factory (Raleigh Road, Bristol, BS3 1TF). Nearly 200 artists will paint live at the free event, which will also feature two stages of live urban music.

This year’s MashUP theme will be at play in the art through collaborative pieces being produced by the international crowd of
artists.

The audience, expected to dwarf last year’s attendance of over 3,500 people, will also be able to browse and buy artwork from the artists involved. As with all Upfest events, the audience is also given a unique opportunity to interact with artists as they paint large-scale pieces.

Upfest is the largest event of its kind in the UK and across Europe, having grown significantly since the first festival was held in 2008. As with previous years, the event will also serve to raise awareness of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (Nacoa). Over the past two years, Upfest has helped raise over £10,000 in aid of the amazing work this charity undertakes.

Mike Ballard – The All Of Everything

Be quick, as The Arts Gallery (part of the University of Arts London) will be no more come February as the Crossrail development takes over and demolishes the place. A suitably fitting exhibition takes place until then, by former student, Mike Ballard.

“The All Of Everything” is an all-encompassing takeover of the floors, walls and ceilings with bold, black and white graphics vying for your attention. The UKSA team will be hitting the exhibition this week, but until then, the shots above give a small taster of what’s on offer.

David Walker in Lisbon

vspdw2

Mr Walker kindly pinged us a couple of pics of his work out in sunny Lisbon and as you can see it’s top quality stuff. Here’s a few words from the man himself:

“I was recently invited by Vhils to Lisbon as a guest painter at the annual VSP (Visual Street Performance) show. VSP is an annual live painting event which takes place in the Portuguese cities of Porto and Lisbon. This year VSP took over a huge semi-derelict school in the heart of Lisbon to be decorated by a host of Portuguese talent (including Vhils, Hium, Klit, Mosaik and more) . Previous guests include CASE, Xenz, Sickboy. I spent an amazing 5 days there painting, meeting all the crew, eating great seafood and talking to some very passionate and inspiring artists and art lovers. Thanks to all that made it a great trip.”
