What would you do with this blank wall? Have your say and spark debate. If you’re a street artist, aged 11-25, and would like to paint this space as a part of the Counted project, The Roundhouse want to know. You can peep the brief after the jump…

Here’s the brief…

Day-to-day, hour-by-hour, do decisions made by others have an impact on your life? What does politics mean to you? Is it just about the government, or is it the small things that affect your everyday life – in class, on the street, at work, on the bus, at home? Is it something you care about? What should people care about?

You have a blank canvas – get people thinking. Create a piece to provoke thought, engage people, ask questions and spark debate.

Background

The wall will be part of a series of projects…

- Counted, a timely documentary-play shedding light on why so many people don’t vote. At County Hall, on the south bank of the Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament, from 15 April-22 May.

- Do you feel Counted? a weekend of performance and debate for 11-25 year olds at

the Roundhouse, 17/18 April.

- Online activity instigating debate and interaction.

The projects aim to provide the opportunity for young people to explore solutions for issues that affect their daily lives and open up channels of communication between decision makers and young people. Most importantly, they’ll highlight how young people can make their opinions heard and be counted.

Format and budget
The large external-facing white wall, approx 3 x 14m, is on the corner of Chalk Farm Road and Regents Park Road. The Roundhouse can provide a reasonable budget for materials. Please send a breakdown with your design.

Application process
Send a design concept, summary of why you want to create the piece, and cost of materials to Bea Hankey at bea.hankey@roundhouse.org.uk or Roundhouse, 100A Chalk Farm Road, London NW1 8EH. Please call Bea on 020 7424 8473 if you’d like more information.

Deadline for applications: Monday 15 March, 2009
Installation: by 29 March

Following the success of the last two 501® Jeans Live Unbuttoned art installations, Levi’s and Vice have come together to find the UK’s most talented painters, illustrators, designers, sculptors, artists, whatever to have their work displayed on HUGE sites throughout London.

There are absolutely no guidelines for this project, other than that your work should try and capture the essence of what it means to “Live Unbuttoned” – living un-restrained and celebrating self-expression and creative freedom. This may involve freedom, creative expression, full-frontal nudity or however else you interpret the project. Basically, this is an offer to have your work displayed in the capital on a huge scale, no strings attached.

For more information and to submit your artwork, check here

As the pressure of a looming show begins to really mount for both Revok and Ladbroke Grove’s Grenade Art, we popped down to visit them to see how it was all taking shape in the lead up to the opening night this Wednesday.

After blitzing one side of the gallery with a combination of paste-ups and spray paint (pics after the jump), the Los Angeles graff legend was kind enough to sign a couple of posters from the show for us (pictured above). For a chance of winning one of these extremely rare, collectors items, email competitions@ukstreetart.co.uk. Applications will be closed next Monday morning (October 20), with the winners announced shortly after.
