Banksy Brooklyn Broken Heart New York

The 7th piece of work went up in Brooklyn today in the “Better Out Than In” series from Banksy.

Featuring a broken heart balloon on the side of a wall, the audio guide tells us “…is obviously an iconic representation of the battle to survive a broken heart”.

The mural is located at the intersection of King Street and Van Brunt Street in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn.

  1. We are an international group of people who work to reduce a common & deadly source of litter: balloons & their ribbons.
Each year at sporting events, weddings, funerals, and celebrations, hundreds of thousands of balloons are released into the air. People releasing balloons may not realize that the balloons — yes, even the biodegradable ones — are litter when they return to Earth and our waterways. Some balloons rise high enough to burst, while others slowly lose their helium, but they ALL eventually fall…landing on earth or in water. Evidence shows that balloons are too often eaten by animals, and the ribbons on balloons may also be ingested or entangle animals. Sea turtles (already endangered) are known to mistake balloons as food. The balloon industry will tell you that latex balloons are biodegradable — but that doesn’t make them digestible! Besides, balloons and their ribbons (mostly made of plastic) don’t biodegrade very quickly.
